Bioenergy Australia Webinar Series – Greening the gas grid: An international perspective and opportunities for Australia
WEBINAR OVERVIEW
This webinar will firstly present a snapshot of the 2017 Australian Biogas Country Report. It will also briefly discuss strategies which support future growth in the Australian biogas sector including the decarbonisation of Australia’s gas grid. An overview of the recent IEA Task 37 ‘Green Gas’ technical report will be provided which addresses the challenges related to the economic and environmental sustainability of green gas production and utilisation. The webinar welcomes active involvement through a Q and A to gather ideas from webinar participants.

SPEAKER BIO’s
A/Prof Bernadette McCabe is a principal scientist with the National Centre for Engineering in Agriculture at the University of Southern Queensland. Bernadette is Australia’s National Team Leader for the International Energy Agency Bioenergy program Task 37: Energy from Biogas and is a Board Director at Bioenergy Australia. Bernadette has a background in agricultural biotechnology and has 20 years’ experience as an academic and researcher. Her research interest in energy capture, resource recovery of waste and biofertilisers has attracted over $2.9M in nationally competitive grants since 2010.
Prof. Murphy is the leader of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Bioenergy Task 37 “Energy from Biogas.” He is the Director of the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) funded MaREI (Marine and Renewable Energy) centre, which has over 200 researchers. He is Professor of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at University College Cork and adjunct Professor at the University of Southern Queensland. He serves on the editorial board of Bioresource Technology. Prof. Murphy has published ca. 120 peer review journal papers, and is listed as one of the highest-cited civil engineers.
Mathieu Dumont is the representative for the Netherlands in the International Energy Agency (IEA) Bioenergy Task 37 Energy from Biogas. He works at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, which is part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate. Mathieu works in the field of renewable energy and specialises in the area of biogas and biomethane.
