Task 43RegularIEA Bioenergy

WORKSHOP TITLE: Adequacy of spatial databases for conducting Risk Assessments of sustainable wood sourcing practices of the U.S. industrial wood pellet industry supplying European energy demand

Join us for an informed and thoughtful dialogue on woody biomass sustainability documentation. Our focus will be on risk-based assessments and the potential to develop regional data and tools, using new technologies to verify compliance with sustainability requirements of international regulations and standards, as well as their potential role in corporate sustainability policies. In addition, the implications for landowners and large-scale energy generators of using this landscape-level approach, as a complement to forest-level certification, will be discussed.

  • Tat Smith, Ph.D. Department of Geography and Planning University of Toronto
