Decarbonizing land transport requires progress across vehicles, fuels, infrastructure and energy systems. Fleets turn over gradually, while transport demand, energy systems, infrastructure and available resources differ substantially across countries and regions. Sustainable renewable fuels can contribute to reducing emissions from existing fleets where fuel quality, vehicle compatibility, infrastructure and sustainable feedstock supply allow, while complementing electrification, efficiency, hybridization and other low-carbon solutions.

This IEA Bioenergy Task 39 (Biofuels to Decarbonize Transport) webinar will present the Technical Conclusions from the Industry Hearing on Biofuels for Decarbonization of Land Transport, held in São Paulo, Brazil, in September 2026. The Industry Hearing combined an international stakeholder questionnaire, consultations with Task 39 members, an International Advisory Committee and invited experts, structured discussions and international prioritization of technical conclusions.

The webinar will open with an overview of the COP30 Presidency Roadmap and the Belém 4X Pledge, providing the broader international context for sustainable fuels. This will be followed by a presentation of the Industry Hearing results, including the prioritized technical conclusions and cross-cutting implementation considerations.

Representatives from organizations that contributed to the Industry Hearing process will then provide perspectives on the findings from the viewpoints of mobility and infrastructure and international biofuel cooperation.

The webinar will conclude with an open discussion and Q&A.
