New Report – Using “BEAST” to support the local dialogue on lignocellulosic cropping for energy use, climate protection and sustaining ecosystem services
This report of IEA Bioenergy Task 43 introduces “BEAST”, the “Bio-Energy Allocation and Scenario Tool”. BEAST provides a flexible instrument helping local actors to put across complex land use interactions in the selection of suitable (in economic and ecological terms) sites for lignocellulosic crops. The report provides a German case study example to illustrate scenario generation and results presentation for the selection of suitable short rotation coppice (SCR) sites in the rural district of Göttingen and by presenting a detailed step by step manual with further background information on input data used and methods applied.
