Lignocellulosic Crops in Agricultural Landscapes – Production systems for biomass and other environmental benefits – examples, incentives, and barriers

The production of various lignocellulosic crops in agricultural landscapes can produce biomass for the bioeconomy as well as provide additional ecosystem services, and environmental, social and economic benefits. This IEA Bioenergy Task 43 report presents six concrete examples of such systems (cases in Ireland, Australia, USA, Germany and Sweden). While each example is context-specific, common for all is that they could only have been achieved due to the existence of drivers for an increased biomass demand for energy, with a simultaneous implementation of good management practices, and a supportive social and political environment.
