The Role of Biogas Systems in Building a Sustainable Society
IEA Bioenergy Task 37 (Energy from Biogas) hosted an international webinar exploring the role of biogas systems in building a sustainable society. The event brought together leading experts from research, industry and policy to share insights into the sustainability dimensions of biogas systems, extending well beyond the provision of renewable energy.
We would like to thank all the speakers for their excellent contributions, and the audience for their participation and engagement throughout the session.
The programme covered two presentations on a technical report Identification and assessment of sustainability effects associated with biogas solutions, published in March 2025. The final presentation shared practical experiences from Norway’s largest wastewater treatment plant, Veas, highlighting how societal benefits can be optimized in wastewater systems.
